Weepin With Booms

The boys love sweeping. I can only hope that this lasts into their teenage years! When we were up in Clear Lake, there were lots of brooms around, and they were a very welcome distraction! Jack and Owen were entertained with them for quite a while on multiple occasions.

Who knew sweeping stairs could be so enjoyable?

J and O Sweeping

I'm coming to get you, dirt!

O Sweeping

Whew, this is a lot more tiring than it looks.

You may be asking yourself how this love of sweeping came to be. Well, a couple of months ago, I was getting dinner ready, and rice was on the menu.  For some reason I didn't put the package of rice immediately back into the pantry, where it would be safely out of reach, after I'd measured out what I needed. I poured the dry rice into the boiling water, and behind me heard a sshhhhhhhhhhh sound. That sshhhhhhhhhhh sound was the remainder of the rice left in the package hitting the floor. In case anyone has forgotten how fast toddlers are, let me remind you. They're FAST!

Here is the result.

Rice

And here is the guilty party.

Guilty Jack

Don't worry, Sweetie, this was mommy's fault! I should have known better than to leave something very interesting, and messy sitting within reach of two very curious little guys. I never gave a thought to how difficult it would be to clean up dry rice, but wow.  Anyway, the most efficient cleaning method ended up being sweeping, which we did for a while (though we still continued to find rice for a couple days after the incident!). Now, anytime the boys see a broom, it's "weep, Mommy, weep!"

Now to find a broom that cleans instead of sheds...
