The Love of Yelling

The boys really discovered their vocal powers a few months ago. Not only yelling, but yelling and screaming at the tops of their lungs. Apparently there's something hilarious about this. It's shocking to me how loud they can actually get. Because of this development, we've had the indoor/outdoor voice conversation.

It's funny to see the way their minds work. Sometimes they'll speak quietly, and we'll ask them to repeat whatever they said louder so that we can understand. Unfortunately, to them louder = yelling. We're working on clarifying that there's some middle ground!

A couple weeks ago, we were playing outside, and I told the boys they could yell if they wanted to. They weren't quite sure what to do with that because we're constantly telling them no yelling inside. I guess it was hard for them to separate yelling not being OK inside from being OK outside.

Here's Jack just laughing at me. "You want me to what?? Mommy, you're crazy. You're always telling me not to yell!"

Owen yelled, but tentatively. He wasn't quite sure if he was going to get in trouble.

After more clarification that it was OK since we were outside, they got into it. Don't be fooled by the seemingly calm expression - this kid is LOUD! Evidence: the vein popping out of his neck.

And Owen pretty much sounded like he looks!

They had a blast getting their crazies out, and I enjoyed letting them do it!

P.S. GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!
