Preschool

Our big boys have started preschool.  I played it up as much as I could to try to get the boys excited about it, and their first day went great.  They walked in, joined right in, and we left with no tears (though I was on the verge!).

On their way to their first day of school!

The plan was for them to go three days a week, but we've had a rough go of things since that blissful first day!  Unfortunately, the next day Jack got sick (I believe from another event), so we ended up missing Wed, then Owen got sick Thurs, so we missed Friday.

On Monday we began a fresh week, but leaving the boys at school was not as easy this time.  Since it had been a week since their first experience, it was like starting over, but this time they realized that we were leaving them there, so were a bit clingy.  They went again Tuesday (because we needed an extra day of childcare that week), but I received a call at 11:30 saying Owen had slipped and cut his head.  Just what every mother wants to hear, especially after already feeling anxious about the new situation.  Though the cut was pretty severe (doc described it as "gaping" - yikes!), we lucked out with the location, and the doc was able to secure it with glue.  Phew!  Through grilling Owen, it also sounded like a normal childhood accident, and not something that happened as a result of them being in the school's care (another big phew!).

Poor O was, understandably, exhausted after the experience, and fell asleep in the car on the way home.  Even after I got him out of the car, and laid him down, he didn't move a muscle (except his snoring muscles - and don't worry, the doc said she wasn't concerned about a brain injury due to the wound being on the hardest part of the head).

My poor buddy's head:

Thankfully, after the initial pain, his head has not seemed to bother him at all.

Then, last week we got to experience Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease, so we missed another week of school.  We're back this week, and I'm so glad to have everyone healthy again.  I hope we get at least a week or two so that we can get into a grove with school.  All this stopping and starting, and inconsistency has not been easy on any of us.  I can't wait for the day they're excited about getting to go to school rather than being anxious about us leaving them there.

Thank goodness they have each other - this is hard stuff!!

  1. Welcome to parenthood, after the easier times! It won't get better, but in the end it will be worth every minute you have put into raising your two wonderful boys. They are absolutely so handsome, wait until the girls start to notice them. Many thanks for keeping us updated on them, I love their pictures. Wish I was there to help Judy with her grandchildren as it doesn't look like we will have any in the near future. A hug to Owen and Jack!! Love, Karen
