First Day of School

Today was the day.  My little babies are now officially in public school. I'm in awe at how fast this day crept up.  For those of you who don't know, it was a struggle to decide where to place the boys.  With their late summer birthday, and strongly differing opinions, we debated between a new program the school district offers, Transitional Kindergarten, and the standard Kindergarten.  Thankfully, I have a very supportive husband who gave up his very strong desire to have them start Kindergarten as they were scheduled to do, in order to ease my motherly concerns about our kids growing up as the "young" ones in their class.  We decided to start with TK, which means regular Kindergarten will start next year.  Now that the difficulty of the decision is over (thank you, Bub), we can relax and enjoy the ride!

Yesterday we were able to go have a sneak-peak at their classroom and meet their teachers, which seemed to put the boys at ease and get them excited.  When we arrived, the teachers had a cute little scavenger hunt set up to get the kids familiarized with the room.  For each item found, a sticker or stamp was earned to check off the item.  After all items were found, they got to pick a "treasure" from the class treasure box.  Of course, both of our boys picked hot pink items - go figure.  One of the more exciting things on their list of things to find was a class pet named Dragon (a bearded dragon), whom Owen is anxiously awaiting a chance to pet.

When we dropped them off this morning for their first day of school, they were very excited and happy...they didn't seem nervous in the least!  I'm looking forward to this year so much, and can't wait to see what they learn, the projects they create, and the friends they make.

Getting ready to go to school this morning:

Update: Apparently they got to pet Dragon...verdict is out on whether or not this is fact, but either way, Owen was happy.  They had a great day, and are excited to go back tomorrow...best possible news!
